70 Million Jobs and SHRM Partner on Fair-Chance Hiring Pledge
SHRM is encouraging their membership across all industries to take the Getting Talent Back to Work pledge, a commitment to consider people who have been formerly incarcerated in their hiring strategies.
70 Million Jobs, the first national, for-profit employment platform for people with criminal backgrounds, has created a marketplace that enables employers to access the one-in-three Americans in the job market who have some kind of criminal record. The company operates a job board (70MillionJobs.com) and a staffing/recruiting firm (70MillionStaffing.com).
Since its public launch in 2017, 70 Million Jobs’s community has grown to support more than 10 million formerly incarcerated men and women, and has facilitated employment for thousands, nationwide. The company has worked with some of the country’s largest employers, including Berkshire Hathaway, Uber, Perdue, Denny’s, MOD Pizza and many others. It employs artificial intelligence to match job seekers with companies that will accept their backgrounds. The company is also building a blockchain-enabled reputation management system designed for those with criminal records.
“People who have made mistakes want and deserve the dignity of work, and giving them a second chance to reenter society is a win-win-win,” said SHRM President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. “It decreases the risk of recidivism, promotes a valuable talent pool, and helps reduce the growing skills gap in the U.S.”
