Ask HN: UK-based Dev stuck in a bit of a rut

4 points by KhalPanda ↗ HN
Hi hn, just after some general advice/a bit of a sanity check on my next career move.

I've been a web dev based in the East Midlands of England for the past ~8 years.

I've been in my current role for 3 years and find myself really not looking forward to going into work each day any more. I've worked on a multitude of projects as a senior dev with PHP/node and react.

What I really fancy trying is contracting, remote work or some kind of working holiday visa-type situation abroad. Is the market buoyant for contracts in London/Cambridge? What kinds of places could I move easily temporarily to try? I know H1-b/the US would likely be a pain for me. What about Canada?

I'm trying to keep things interesting with side projects outside work, but with none likely to become full-time gigs any time soon, I feel like I need a change.
