I find it fascinating that you can create culture via actual systems like karma and giving gifts regularly, it makes me wonder are the types of systems that can be created to impact culture positively.
Great writeup. Do you think there are stages (company size, age, revenue, etc) of Olark that might trigger the need for a total rewrite of your culture?
Positive cultures are created, not by chance, but deliberately. In my many years of experience in tech, a company without any positive culture is very noticeable and becomes boring, exhausting and lacks inspiration. Olark has focused on the one thing that matters the most, not just for their employees but for themselves. It's a lot more fun going to work working with awesome people who lift your spirits and energize you to want to go the extra mile. When you care about the people you work with and the mission of your company, your creativity flourishes, inspiration peaks and drive takes you further than you ever imagined possible, even for yourself. Olark exemplifies companies who care about their employees not only by creating a great culture to work with but showing their employees their true potential as they are able to work in an environment that brings out their best. Go Olark!
