The goal is to reduce friction, in the form of style nits on pull requests (by bots or humans). The time to discuss style is when you set your linter config. After that you can all forget about it, until the next time linter config comes up. In this model it’s ok to have a strict linting config. Again, it should reduce friction, not introduce friction.
