Ugh more YIMBY shit. There are more empty houses available than there are homeless people, and yet these houses go empty. Why? Because its profitable to have scarcity. This is what capitalism does. It allows a few people to capture property, then induce scarcity of that property in order to charge more money. These same landlords are the ones writing the laws that make it harder to build more housing. Its all connected to rent-seeking behavior that is at the heart of capitalist economies.
The actual fix is to de-commoditization housing, have housing owned by the public, whom is better situated to make decisions about how many houses to build and where. This is the only way to end homelessness and eliminate the grapple hold that landlords have on the situation in our major cities.
If this anonymous builder knew in advance that his plan was not in compliance with local regulations, why did he propose it in the first place? Just asking.
