The Dems have fucking lost it. "Haha he typoed coverage"
If this is all they have to complain about then I think we're doing pretty good.
Yes I know this isn't a popular opinion here, bring the downvotes.
On a serious note about this issue, I think if you're on the side of making it official for the President, then you should be on the side for enforcing freedom of speech on the private platform, preventing the silencing of Conservatives and the like. It has already been used to prevent Trump from deleting tweets or blocking users (that's why there is spam on his feed, usually people can block those trolls, but he is not allowed to)
1. I think they have a little more to complain about than a typo, and subsequent response.
2. Did you read the article? The name of the act is just a silly prod. The act would have the law treat the President's personal social media accounts (ie @RealDonaldTrump) the same way as official social media accounts (ie @POTUS)
So you think that making a record of the president's public communications is a bad thing? Sure it was spawned by a typo (granted one that was part of an unprofessional and childish rant), but the core idea of extending official communications new forms of broadcast, and recording those official communications seems like a good one to me. What's the counter besides "it was the result of my leader acting like a child"?
Cute retronym, but the act makes sense; if the WH says communications on a particular channel are considered official, then it's just sensible to record them.
> The bill would amend the Presidential Records Act to preserve Twitter posts and other social media interactions of the President of the United States
Does this mean the bill has not (yet) been passed into law? Or has it been voted on already?
Lots and lots of stuff. Presidents walk away with their "papers" and put them in their libraries post presidency. Obama, for one, isn't even planning on making his papers physically available. Also tons of White House records are never made available. Guest lists for parties and other visitors to the White House are not always made available, even if they are not actually classified.
Sadly, Library of Congress was archiving all tweets at the time. They stopped doing so later that year [1]. I don't know if it was ever resumed or not. Fortunately, tons of people are archiving that sort of thing on their own anyway :)

This is also why the President should not tweet.
"The Dems have fucking lost it" is not proper HN etiquette, at least on my book.
