Ask HN: Would You Recommend Game Development as a Day Job?

I'm currently a Web Developer, and working for 1 year as one. I have always wanted to be a Game Developer but hasn't started anything from it. Would you recommend being a Game Developer as a Day Job? is the Salary Enough or decent?

Before we even cover salary, I have to ask if you have experience developing games in your own time?

Its all well and good to play games but it is a massive undertaking to build your own. I have been working as web developer for 5 years now and I decided to make a game in my spare time just over a year ago now. As the games development ramped up and took up more of my time, I realised that developing games will only ever be a hobby for me.

Its a really tough industry to be in, salaries aren't typically that high, hits are difficult to come by and the time investment is massive.
