I mean - all the polls show he is behind the Democrats, including from Fox News, and so I am not sure where you got the notion that impeachment is the only way they can “defeat him”.
I think the impeachment talk stems from how he’s been abusing the executive office for personal gain, whether that’s holding aid to strategic allies for his political gain or enriching his pockets (holding the G7 conference at his failing resort).
When I read posts like yours - it’s kind of astounding. The guy is clearly and openly undermining the country for his personal gain. People around him have been indicted or sentenced for criminal activities. Like what would it take for you to see that? Or is it that you don’t care as long as Democrats are “crying”?
Targeted ads silo us into different subjective realities. A major reason for trump's surprise upset in 2016 is that voters susceptible to him were targeted with propaganda that the rest of us weren't aware existed.
It works even better in the dark, best believe that the masters of that art noticed and are doubling down.
It used to be done with direct mail in the same sort of way. Campaigns would target mail drawing on data about homeowners that was either public record (certain taxes, party affiliation) or private and for sale (for example, lists of magazine subscribers). With good cross-referencing campaigns could mount efficient and effective direct mail campaigns. Karl Rove and David Axelrod, two men from different sides of the political spectrum, even teach a Masterclass together that continues to push it as a tactic (https://www.masterclass.com/classes/david-axelrod-and-karl-r...). Facebook is perhaps more targeted and a lot cheaper for the campaigns, but it’s nothing new to push targeted messaging under the radar where the media and other voters won’t see it.
Can’t see the article (paywall), but this isn’t a surprise. You have Democrat candidates open to or advocating for the notion of increasing taxes on the elite classes. For the rich, it’s a tiny investment to support the opposing candidate... not to mention the poor and uneducated classes who are convinced democrats only want to take their freedom and turn America into Venezuela.
On a personal note - with money supposedly being free speech, it’s absolutely critical we increase estate taxes, especially for billionaires. Personally I don’t want to live in a world where our opinions and politics are shaped by dynasties, whether that’s the Trumps, the Clintons, or anyone else.
I’m highly paid ($300K+), so before anyone says - I’m not trying to steal from anyone. But having a billionaire class that laws don’t apply to or that can essentially do whatever it wants makes no sense to me. It’s a bigger threat to democracy and freedom than any terrorist or religious extremists.
