Ask HN: Do you use unmaintained libraries?

What qualifies as unmaintained to you?

In my experience I have come across engineers that are very dogmatic about this, and won't allow unmaintained libraries even for developer tools, or very small helper libraries that do very specific things.

Do you think this rule should apply always or analyzed by individual scenarios?
