Ask HN: Why is Signal going to shit?

For the last 5 years or so I’ve been moving all my contacts to Signal, this has not been easy, it meant manually installing hundreds of apps on friends and family’s phones and pestering them to use it.

I’ve been vocal on social media and forums defending and promoting them just so we could have a viable alternative to Facebook’s WhatsApp.

But their latest update is now ruining my arduous work and I keep getting complains from people that have been kind enough to give them a go. Mainly 3 things:

1 – The mobile/desktop syncing now loads all previous messages and goes through them one by one.

2 – Their group messaging now is buggy and people that have setup their phone can’t type for some reason until suddenly they can…?

3 – It’s taking forever to upload images to the point that I’m getting the old ‘this app is too slow, why don’t you use WhatsApp?’ from people that had not complained in a while.

There’s no way I’m going back to Facebook or any of their properties, including WhatsApp and Instagram so please, please, Whisper team, don’t fuck it up :)
