Ask HN: UI Face-off – 2 sites, same function. Which UI is superior?

Here's an example of two web sites that perform the same function, listing restaurant and bar deals in a particular city. Happy hours, lunch specials, late night deals and the like. I see plus and minuses to both UI approaches, wondering which UI was preferred by the HN readership. Comments/votes welcomed.
