One wonders why crypto-exchanges that operate off the blockchain do not use tamper-evident record keeping of their back office operations.

They especially need to convince holders of hosted wallets that operations are correct, pristine and archived.

If you don't own the keys.... :( Condolences mate. Stick a couple of hundred in bitcoin and a hardware wallet. Sit on it for 10 years and pay them back.
reach $1000 from $1 in two years is clearly a buy sign. congrats, you are the 99%.
>It wasn’t entirely my fault!

Sorry mate - it was.

>I was 37 and had never invested in anything, let alone digital currency

I'm 30 and started investing about three years ago. Simple vanilla stuff that doesn't get you rich in the short term, but will likely make a profit in the long run. Crypto was always off limits for me, because I know that I don't know much about it.

>but I felt like I was missing out on a huge opportunity

FOMO is one hell of a drug.

>As a precariously employed freelance writer

Invest what you can actually afford.

>I started to hear about cryptocurrency everywhere—the news, social media, even at my local barbershop.

>Maybe I’ve discovered an Amazon in its infancy!

This is the kicker. If you hear about something everywhere, chances are you didn't discover it.

But at least he learned the right lesson:

>Maybe Ethereum will revolutionize the financial system one day, and if my barber tells me about it, I’ll swallow my FOMO

Hope he makes it back somehow...
