My Email Is in Instagram Limbo

Something went wrong at account creation where an instagram account remains active but only to the point where the email is reported to be in use. When an attempt is made to recover the password, instagram reports it as not being associated with any account.

I can't log in to disable the account nor can I use the email with my actual account.

I've contacted instagram about this and remain unexpectant of a positive resolution. It may nevertheless be interesting to speculate what happens in cases like this, where code errors happen and the common unaproachability of a million-dollar platform like instagram assures an email address can remain in exile, forever.
