Ask HN: Has anyone tried making a product that wasn't a SaaS?

I'm working on a mobile app targeted towards consumers who are into productivity apps. However, I feel like pricing it as a SaaS would be un-appealing vs an one time payment of $10. Has anyone tried making non-SaaS products? Did it sell well?
