That's ridiculous. Santa is not a Christian symbol, and even Christmas itself is commonly celebrated by non-Christians (including Jews) as a secular holiday.
That said, the santa hat would have mildly annoyed me (certainly not worth complaining about), but only because unexpected changes to my tools are annoying. Unexpected changes are one of the big reasons why I avoid SaaS things (and autoupdates).
