Ask HN: How do you manage CS driven nearsightedness?

Coding ruined my vision over 5 years of constant screen usage; I'm college age, and it keeps getting worse. I tried several glasses, but counter to the science my vision seems worsen more when wearing them while working indoors (negative placebo perhaps). The only tricks I found to improve clarity are squinting and or positioning a led behind my display pointed down at me.

What did and didn't help you? E.g tricks, software, glasses, contacts, surgery, etc...
