Ask HN: Scanning Large Numbers of Journals?

My mom has kept a journal for me and for herself for more than 30 years. I'm nervous about us losing them, so I'd like to make a digital copy. OCR is a secondary concern - her writing is tough for me to decipher, let alone a machine.

Info:

- Approximately 60 journals, maybe 100 pages each.

- Each book has different dimensions, but they're largely all smaller than A4. Most are hardback.

- Some of the bindings are worn, so I don't want to subject them to much mechanical stress.

What's the most efficient way I can make high-quality scans of these journals without damaging them?
