European commission "Common Charger" for phones (onechargerforall.eu)

I fail to see how this will have a "green" effect by cutting down on sold chargers. Will they start selling phones w/o chargers?

Apple's a signatory, but I'm not convinced they'll abandon the iPod / Phone / Pad data cable. Maybe supplement it with USB charging?
