I understand and to some extent agree with your sentiment. I gather you are an American given this article is about an attack on U.S. troops. Assuming this is correct I venture to guess that you are a Christian. If so wouldn't it be more appropriate to pray for peace rather than just for troops from one country?
I feel I should state that I'm an atheist who used to be a Christian (at least I proclaimed as much). I've noticed a tendency of American Christians to have a nationalist perspective rather than a global one. This has struck me as odd given the message of Christ.
At any rate, pray for our troops tho. And those of Iran too!
Praying doesn't really carry Christian connotations on its own though. I, as a fairly non religiously affiliated Japanese person, would think of "praying" as something along the lines of "wishing for someone's well being even when you have no control over the situation".
Though I agree with your point about praying for peace, I can't help feel that you're extrapolating too much based on your experiences.
