We had a decent New Year’s Eve with at least a thin layer of snow covering the plains to light things up when it gets dark. A few weeks before that the kids were constantly out playing in the snow.
And early morning January 1. we woke up to all the snow gone.
My kids are out playing with bikes now, something they usually would never do before March or April.
I grew up in southern New Hampshire (Nashua). Growing up we had serious blizzards every few years. The first big weather event I remember was† the Blizzard of '78.
I live in southeast Alaska now, where it's a really mild maritime climate. Our winters are typically 30s and 40s, with an occasional dip into the 20s. Yesterday we were in a cold snap at ~15 degrees, and I was texting with my mother who still lives in Nashua. They hit 68 yesterday, which broke the daily record by 7 degrees.
I can hardly imagine the world my 8yo son is growing into.
We had record highs in New York this weekend too. While it was pleasant and lots of people were out and about enjoying the weather, this is spooky weather for middle of winter...

Completely bonkers.
Weird weather all around. Around freezing would be more normal temperature, January is the month where we typically get the most snowfall.
