Ask HN: What qualifies a GitHub trending repository

My GitHub repository gets 700 stars yesterday thanks to the HN post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22081419). However it does not appear in GitHub's overall trending list for the day. Instead it shows under Java category. Are there any other rules for the overall ranking besides stars?
