Ask HN: What are your best practices when open-sourcing some code?
I have written a IMO helpful tool that I want to open source. Now I wonder if there are some guidelines in order to help people try it out and even engage.
Are there some best practices you follow? Here is what I have noted so far:
- Readme with screenshots - Provide a live demo - A propper license - Document a trivial way to run it ("Getting started") - Free of bugs :)
Thanks in advance.
