Ask HN: Where would I get data/APIs?

Let's say I want certain kinds of data - traffic, GIS, jobs, income levels in an area, crop prices, etc.

Are there marketplaces for this? Is there a way for me to know if a startup has data for sale? I know a lot of people talk about selling data but what's the best approach to buying data?
