It always made me wonder why there are so many posts about this, that, or the other site being down at any given moment. Sure people on HN might subscribe to sites like Plex, but by default, those who do will notice themselves when it is down if and when they try to go there. I doubt people come to HN first to check site status in order to avoid going to other sites that may or may not be down. It's one step away from posting that your postal mail or garbage pickup was late today, or you just stepped on a piece of gum running to catch the subway - personal and in-the-moment.
Personally, I see it as the second laziest post one can make on HN. The laziest of course, are the randomish links to Wikipedia. Someone out there is probably already thinking links like https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hacker%20news would be the next greatest thing on HN, and yet even that is only slightly lazier.
