I personally find procedurally generated worlds boring. Whenever I see something unusual in a hand crafted game, I can wonder why it's there, how it fits into the lore, how did it come to be?
With a procedurally generated world (unless part of that procedure was simulating a very detailed history) the answer to all of my questions are, this particular oddity, just like all other oddities, is just an artifact of a psuedo random number generator.
