Biggest mistake(s) you made managing a remote team

I'm in the middle of writing a four-part Remote Guide (because the world clearly needed another one). I really wanted to dig into this phenomenon and put it into a wider context.

Parts 1 and 2 are already out. I'm currently working on parts 3 (hiring and onboarding) and 4 (managing remote teams).
