Let's not use 20 different names. All of us on this website might know how to differentiate but your grandma doesn't.

Corona is a class of virus, so let's not call it corona.

Sars-2-ncov? Really? Covid19? Okay but technical Ncov19- same.

Let's call it Wuhan flu for two reasons-

1) Chinese people, in China don't care about names and are reasonably thick skinned.

2) the kind of people who are racists won't be smart enough to know Wuhan is on China, if they don't alreadh know the virus originated in China.

3) and most importantly my grandma can search for it.

I think the "coronavirus" appellation has already spread beyond reasonable hopes of containment.
Last week on XKCD: https://xkcd.com/2275/
I'm sorry but I think they should do something about that spider first.
Coronavirus is affecting hundreds of thousands of people, while the spider's only affecting the few poor souls who pass through 3rd and Main. I'd say they've got their priorities in order.
Maybe, but I'm worried, not just because of my fear of Spiders, but we haven't found out if it's a female yet. If we look at this http://www.americanarachnology.org/JoA_free/JoA_v31_n2/arac-... I worry we can expect multiple clutches of eggs. Sure one giant mutant spider now doesn't look that bad in comparison to Coronavirus, but several hundred, and then further generations to come signify a problem that we should maybe focus on right now!

and I'm scared of spiders.

Okay, but on the other hand, we also have the opportunity to raise those baby spiders from birth to be our noble steeds. I'd certainly rather ride a spider to work every day than drive in rush hour traffic.
Why does grandma need to differentiate? All the news she reads about Coronavirus, COVID-19, corona, 2019-nCov, etc are all about the same thing. And searching on any of those term will take her to the information she's looking for.

If you're interested in reducing confusion, why are you adding one more name "Wuhan flu" that's not even accurate, a coronavirus infection is not a flu.

Why are we upvoting this? This is not a noteworthy news. HN’s top page spot for something else that’s insightful is taken up by memes of recursion and entertainment.

Along the same lines - Bloomberg has destroyed its credibility as a source, instead it’s looking for clicks. Ever since the motherboard chip hack article, I stopped trusting them.
