Ask HN: What do you use for Live Network Mapping?

I've been looking for a free or inexpensive tool for live network and port mapping but I've been having trouble finding something that'll fill the role.

Given the fact that I can query port mapping, VLANs, MACs, etc, from my networking equipment there must surely be a tool to scan and display that in a somewhat more visual way, right?
