Ask HN: Best way to prevent macOS applications from launching?

There's a macOS app called Focus (https://heyfocus.com) that stops websites and apps from being accessed/launching for a period of time. I currently use Self Control (http://selfcontrolapp.com) which is an open source/free tool. However, because it only blocks website usage, I was wondering what a HN solution would be. It seems overkill to shell $19-$39 to get access to basically half a feature.
