In this paper Bostrom lays out several scenarios whereby advances in technology create potential existential threats to civilization. In response to such threats he imagines what steps might be necessary to prevent or mitigate the risk of such threats. Some of these steps would be anathema to most freedom-loving people.
In light of the 2020 Coronavirus outbreak, we're seeing glimpses of what such steps could look like. Except the weapon spawns spontaneously, as opposed to coming from some rogue actor. Yet the cure might be the same.
