Is this the upcoming demise of the US?

I know the title sounds clickbaity and kind of nonsense, but hear me out for a second.

Imagine a country that forced a lockdown on its citizens, but didn't have any borders whatsoever. It would be impossible for this country to contain the outbreak because no matter the length of its lockdown, if there are no inbound-travel controls, once the lockdown is lifted (or earlier than that), then a new outbreak would begin again. Border control is the most important thing to keep the curve flat, then.

Now, think about this: I was not actually talking about a country, but about a state of the US. They don't have intra-state borders, and each state is acting differently (some have forced lockdowns, some don't). Therefore the pandemic is going to be brutal in the US, not only because of its length (it will not stop until the whole country forces a lockdown or there is a ban to mingle in public without a mask), but because of their rudimentary healthcare system.

I hope I'm wrong, or I hope this teaches them a lesson: to build safety-nets structure such as the public healthcare systems that are predominant in Europe.
