Ask HN: Disease Tracking Privacy Issues
Many countries are making apps to track COVID-19.
Even though the Singaporean approach seems to have built-in privacy (location data, ID's "met" and timestamps stored locally), most seem to opt to active surveil every user all the time and store all data centrally.
This seems to me a less privacy-friendly and a less safe alternative.
As I've tried to raise discussions about this in public, I have (to my surprise) gotten responses from even epidemiologists and CISOs that basically boil down to stuff like "it's not an issue", "we have to make some concessions","trust the government", and "nothing to hide, nothing to fear".
I think it's pretty important to have these conversations.
What are your thoughts?
