Ask HN: SDE to DevOps – what should I be learning?

Hey HN, I am currently a SDE transitioning into a DevOps lead at my company and am looking for advice on what I should be looking out for in this new role.

I have been reading up on technologies currently being used in the industry here (https://landscape.cncf.io/) to try and understand where we should invest our time.

For DevOps, we currently use Jenkins for CI/CD and AWS products. We use a blend of EC2 instances with Elastic Beanstalk for deployment. We haven't really needed to push the envelope on using Docker/Kubernetes yet.

Where is DevOps going? What should a DevOps engineer be preparing for now so that they're ahead of the curve in 1/2 years?
