Ask HN: Should I join Apple? Will I risk getting laid off?

I have recently received an offer to join a team at Apple as an engineering manager. What are the chances of getting hit by layoffs?

The team is part of Eddy Cue's org (IS&S).

I work for an organization with pretty much zero risk of layoffs. The work is humdrum, and I make $ 250k in total comp in a HCOL area. The Apple job will pay $350k.

The recent discussion on the terrible status of the IS&T org at Apple along with the impact of the virus is giving me pause.

On the one hand the job is an unparalleled opportunity to work on some cutting edge systems in a name-brand company and accelerate my career and personal financial milestones. On the other hand, i’m on a visa, and getting laid off will have catastrophic personal consequences.

Do you think it is worth the risk?
