Ask HN: Managing large repositories with many collaborators

So this has been a bit hard for me to search and find good information on.

Those of you who have worked or seen people working on 20+ GB/200K+ files repositories with 500+ collaborators, how did things scale? Did you ever faced problems during merges or reviews? Any good tools/workflows that you would recommend?
