Ask HN: How can you find an honest online review/info of a product nowadays?

Every time I want to research a product -let’s say, a camera- I have a hard time finding ‘non-advertising’ information. What I mean is that if I go to Google, you already know what happens, most of the links are blogs from people who get paid to write about these products, and I don’t know how to distinguish between these blogs and the real ones written by people who are not paid (if any), and this happens with YouTube too for instance. If you go to Amazon or any other online store, you’ll mostly find fake reviews. My last shot is searching on reddit, HN or similar online communities but I don’t always find what I’m looking for.

So, I was guessing how you research a product in order to be able to select the right one for you, because I feel like I'm seeing ads everywhere...
