Who Owns Archive.is/archive.li/archive.vn/archive.whatever it is that day

Is it a Russian guy, or is that just a cover story?

They don't tell you who they are, where they get their funding; and they constantly change their IP's, urls -- they even use proxy servers ffs!

Obviously they are not to be trusted -- but who are they, and what is their motive?

They don't even use ads...

What exactly are we not trusting them with?

Edit: This post should be an Ask HN: post also.

The obtuse responses are .....sick.....seriously, that's the only word you can use -- sick

I'm not answering your question because the answer is very obvious...

When you don't know all the answers -- which happens very frequently in life -- you are forced to ask questions and engage in speculation. I know software programmers are very straight edge and left brained, but this is getting to be a joke...

I’m not sure people are using it for true archiving purposes, so much as they are to avoid giving clicks to sites like CNN.
I think it's a Trojan Horse that is run by establishment -- not Russians (google, facebook etc). I've caught the wayback machine removing pages several times recently, so I suspect they are providing this fake alternative. It was banned on wikipedia for a long time, and many suspected that there could be hacking issues.

Sort of like a Crypto A.G. situation

There’s definitely something sketchy about it, but I wouldn’t take it too seriously. If anything I’d be more worried about tracking (since it’s very specific groups who use those sites, and can be further targeted by misinformation), or perhaps altering of content.
