When setting up to learn something new, either in tech or otherwise, how do you choose a learning resource?

What is your strategy to locate the 'best' or most appropriate ones? And how do you finally choose between them?

Do you even strive to find the best resources available, or do you rather just get up and running quickly with a good-enough resource, without 'wasting' time on finding the right one?
