Ask HN: How to avoid people mistake your hobbies as profession on social media?
Hi,
I am an avid 3D printer hacker/aficionado. I never plan to turn it into an economical endeavour. It is entirely an hobby for me. I never want to get into business of it. Unless it is purely software.
Professionally, I have been a programmer, web developer, app developer etc...
I notice people mistake my 3D printing hobby as my main profession. Since I can not post projects I do for my clients as openly every day.
I think this has a negative effect on how/what I am perceived as. I think this may effect my chances of being recognized as a hardcore developer.
Do you face similar challenges?
How do you tackle it?
