Ask HN: When learning a new language what do you build first?

Usually I end up just doing what is in the book/tutorial/walkthrough/whatever because I have no original ideas. I've heard some genius's say they like to build a lisp in every language. I'm probably gonna do the 30 Days of Code challenges to learn my next languages.
