At no point did they "follow the science." So called scientific racism was always built with the conclusion of (usually) white supremacy in mind. Blacks would never be found superior no matter what evidence existed.
The author seems to be a proponent of "intelligent design," another idea that begins with the conclusion, which may explain why they see this as science.
