Ask HN: How do I know if a business is owned by private equity?

As a customer who is concerned about the negative externalities of private equity, I'd like to search by company name to identify if a company is owned by private equity in order to shape my purchasing decisions. Even better if more financial information was shown such as if debt was used as leverage by an acquirer.
