From my perspective, I'd say politics stands more of a chance of delivering a societal collapse.
Why are physicists trusted to make this prediction? Isn't this like a chemist creating a theory for quantum gravity?
I really don't understand how any of this can be considered scientific.

We really have no clue what will happen in the future. Blindly extrapolating current trends to predict what the state of the world will be 100 years from now has never been a useful approach. Complex systems are ... complex. Stuff changes, feedback loops kick in, people and societies adjusts.

Trivially proven true. Within MAX(human_lifespan) everyone shall have died.
