Ask HN: Office politics while working from home

Now that a lot of people are working from home: how did office politics change? Is there less of it or do you see a continuation of office politics with other means? Another option is that one is not supposed to talk about this topic...

They cannot push identity politics and diversity bullshit anymore. The management is starting to realise that some of their blue haired hires aren't doing much.
It’s different.

A lot of the bullshit you’d be aware of due to being able to see people is renewed because everyone hasn’t figured out how people operate.

I think we’ll see how it works out as companies start purging.

There are politics in online games and forums where nobody sees each other. I've been in Slack groups with lots of private gossip channels. I don't think office politics will change much.

One of my favourite quotes: "Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing." - Robert E. Howard (Conan)

The lack of any physical response may make people even ruder with one another. Though it will cut down on office affairs and the like.

I work 2 hours less per day. I take a lot more breaks, and no one seems to notice. As long as they think I am as productive as ever, it's all good, I guess, sort of?

We know how this would normally play out in the office world: "ah! You can work more than before, amazing. You now need to work more. Oh, and we're simply a small startup, the pay raise will be the same, regardless of your performance."

Now I do get my promotions in more free time.
