Ask HN: A call for an organically self-correcting society

I think most highly educated / forward thinking / reflective individuals will agree that our current trajectory as a society is unsustainable. If we polled those same people during the dot-com bubble they may have had a similar sentiment. As well as during the housing crisis (great recession). There are plenty of other situations one could point to. I'm only mentioning these financial disasters since we currently find ourselves in yet another. And our current situation could be considered more than just a financial disaster, though I think we can all agree it's at least that.

What suggestions do the citizens of planet Earth have for dealing organically with these sorts of situations? By "organically" I mean "elegant rules / laws of society" that help it correct itself organically without intervention. I should point out that I am positing that these financial catastrophes should NOT be considered normal, and that we should be taking steps to correct them but we don't seem to be doing that.

Many people might point out that our existing system is designed to be self-correcting. I would simply point out that we've pretty conclusively (in my mind) determined whatever we're currently doing is not enough.

Do you have suggestions that could work? Or what suggestions have you heard or read about that you're inspired by?
