I feel like some people’s frustrations with Torvalds falls under “don’t meet your heroes”.
Not that I’m imparting any thing to him personally, but separately I wonder if “the greats” through out history would be remembered differently if they sent out weekly emails that were archived perfectly forever? I suspect Jefferson and Ghandi and MLK and Turing and Tesla would have more flaws than we are currently willing to accept of “idols” if they were on weekly email chains with the public. Again, not that Torvalds is or isn’t near any of them, just that with access to someone comes perspective, and we never had this level of access to the people considered great contibutors historically.
