Ask HN: Will we live to see banks implement API?

It really bothers me that in 2020 there is still no banking API that one can use to make online payments. The visa/mastercard/maestro... monopoly created by the very few privileged companies that rule the entire world just enrages me to no end and all that PCI-DSS crap with it.

Why can't we have the freedom of choice? Will this ever change? I was hoping crypto would make a stop to this cartel, but it didn't. If you don't like it, you can take the PayPal route and set up an account in every bank in the world, but who has money for that? This market is so corrupt and broken, I can't even...
