Most news articles have said, and this one seems completely oblivious about, the upcoming Tesla "Battery Day" where. For example, Business Insider said "The automaker is set to reveal battery technology and cost-cutting advancements at its Battery Day event". Morgan Stanley upgraded Tesla because of the Battery Day, and that seems to have been the trigger for these gains.
Not sure where Tech Crunch is coming from, but it was all over my news feed this weekend.
It's funny that Tesla keeps getting compared to other automakers to prove a point about them being way overvalued. But Tesla isn't a car company, they are an energy company focusing on renewable energy. Don't believe me? Go back and ready Musk's 2006 "Secret Master Plan".
There are a lot of petrol companies at the top of the list of companies by market cap. Tesla is gunning for them. If you want to buy into the NEXT Exxon AND the next Toyota (both at the top of the list), then Tesla might be a good buy.
