Ask HN: How do you jump domains, industries, etc.?

I've been doing the same thing for several years and I hate it. Ideally I'd like to switch to something else, but it seems like so many industries want many years of experience specific to a certain domain, or in some extreme cases, experience with certain companies.

It feels futile to apply to stuff when my resume is effectively not much better than that of a new grad, if not worse.
