I think Gates is wrong. The case for assorted electric tractors gets stronger and stronger as batteries get better and better. This will increase the endurance, and I think that swappable battery packs will emerge so that the swap will take less time then it takes to gas up and feed up the crews. Then there are the convoy possibilities - with electric you can make road trains. Hills will be a burden, but regeranation will give some part of the hill climb KwHrs back, but gas/diesel never gives anything back. That said, time will tell, Gates has often been wrong before, and feel he will be this time as well.
